Disaster Relief grant
In March 2022, VCA Charities stepped forward to secure the operational longevity of the teams canines by awarding a $20,000 Disaster Relief grant through the Los Angeles County Fire Foundation. This critical funding directly supported the canine search team by providing comprehensive veterinary care and medical resources for each of the 18 canines through 2023. By absorbing these high veterinary overhead costs, VCA Charities directly protected the handlers from budget constraints, ensuring their elite canine partners remained healthy, protected, and fully deployment-ready to answer the call.
A Home For The Holidays
In December 2022, VCA Charities executed their "A Home for the Holidays" campaign by completely clearing the wish list for the Los Angeles County Fire Depts canine search team, routing the generous support through the Los Angeles County Fire Foundation. This vital in-kind donation provided the teams with essential gear, including premium dog beds and high-durability toys, alongside Yeti coolers and portable Rinse Kits for mobile decontamination.

THE DECON DEn
In partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and VCA Charities, our organization is helping supply a national first, asset for the Department's Canine Search Team. Initiated in late 2025 and on track for completion by the end of summer 2026, this milestone project beautifully blends agency resources. While the Fire Department procured the physical structure, a generous restricted grant from VCA Charities provided the vital capital required to completely outfit the interior into a state-of-the-art canine decontamination facility. Once completed, this will be the first dedicated training-facility canine wash station for a fire department in the nation.
2026 VCA National Meeting
On April 21st, 2026, members of our organization were invited to be the Keynote speakers at VCAs Annual National Meeting. Our members discussed their experiences being K9 handles in front of 200+ VCA Executives and associates.
